A utopian take on AI, a misunderstood masterpiece
In my personal opinion, this series was a misunderstood masterpiece. Cubix was ahead of its time.
This show was my absolute favorite as a kid and stayed with me for years, made me feel so hopeful for the future. Turns out the aesthetic of the show is heavily influenced by the design style called "Frutiger aero". Probably one of the most Frutiger aero pieces of media ever to exist, honestly.
People make fun of cubix saying it's animation is ugly or dated but Cinepix was a small animation company competing with giants! I'm still blown away by what they were able to achieve at the time. The graphics were revolutionary but no one cared because it wasn't pixar or made in the west.
Cubix has an incredible look and feel, a coziness, a familiarity despite being set in the future that is so different from most science fiction. It's a suburban sci-fi, fantasy that feels like it could happen in your own backyard. It's a utopian take on AI where machines become our friends, making Cubix rather unique and refreshing. There's also quite a bit of lore in the show that's completely overlooked and the music is unforgettable. You can tell the team at Cinepix poured their whole heart into this series, it was clearly made with love.

The best TV show ever
It is the best show i have ever seen, it's talking robots for Christ's sake. I think it is a really flawless show and the only way to make it better is having me as a voice actor but we'll come to that (You can reach me at 072-208-82-04)The characters are really good and it is the best animation i've ever seen, every other animation these days suck, Zootopia? SUCKS. Inside out? Even worse! I only have one more thing to say and that is that this show is great for all ages and you should definitely watch it with your kids. Don't have kids? Well then you suck! But if you wan't to have children, i know a guy and a place for that... The guy is me and the place is my dark and haunted basement. Meet you there soon!
"In the future not too far away/It's the dawning of an all new day..."
Of all the TV shows that have ever caused any kind of offence, you wouldn't expect the harmless computer-animated "Cubix" to be among them. But in England, where "Cubix" is part of BBC1's children's lineup, MENCAP recently complained that the character of Mong makes fun of people who are Mongoloid; given that the show gives its robot characters stereotyped personalities anyway (in the English-language version there's one in particular who has a pretty grating would-be-Cockney accent), it probably wasn't intentional.
The thing I find most interesting about this show, adapted for us decadent Westerners by the folks who did "Pokemon," is that it's a Japanese show where the participants actually LOOK Japanese for once; most animated series from the East give the characters exaggeratedly Western features, but here the human characters have Japanese features and aren't ashamed of it. The stories themselves aren't much to write home about - a boy and his father move to the robot-filled Bubbletown, to the delight of the lad (our hero and narrator) but not so his dad, who's no great fan of robots for some reason; everyone there has a sentient robot (Captain Kirk would go bananas if he lived there) and his is one he repairs called Cubix, who's a great help in the continuing battles against the town's de rigeur mad scientist...
Nothing spectacular in terms of either writing or animation, but it's a painless and ultimately inoffensive time killer. The BBC should instead be censured for buying in "Evolution: The Animated Series" (as should DIC for making it, but that's another story).

Cubix was a great show. But why would it come to an early end?
Cubix was a great show on Kids' WB. What I liked about the show was that Connor was able to fix him in the first episode. I also liked the robot's ability to transform into anything (e.g. Hover scooter). But I don't why a show like this one would come to an early end after only two seasons. I was three years old when the show first premiered in 2001. I had a VHS featuring a preview and merchandise including action figures and video games. What I want is for the show to come back on TV with more seasons and episodes. That way the past can be brought back to the future. It would also bring memories.
