Not A Comedy For Anyone Who Ever Had To Hire Someone

Florence Turner is a new employee at the box factory. She is more interested in chewing gum than actually working, and any time anything goes wrong, she cries. She sniffles, she moans, she kvetches. So they send her to Edwin Phillips' department, where he will, presumably, beat her to a pulp.

There is some nice crowd direction here. The other actresses are amused by Miss Turner's idiotic newbie in direct proportion to her distance from them. One of the women up close is Flora Finch, who is not at all amused.

I didn't find this short particularly amusing. In large part, that's because I've had to deal with employees, some of whom viewed the job with indifference.... heck, I recall a few jobs I didn't care about, but then remembered they were paying me. As a result, I thought the film was annoying.

Miss Florence Turner gives us a bit of old-time Turner comedy. It just happens that she also wrote this skit as well as taking the chief role. There are many in the cast, the chief of whom is Harry Morey, who makes a lot of fun on his own account by his delineation of the "tough" of the factory. It is a case of more or less laughter all the way through the thousand feet. Miss Turner takes the part of Mame, "the boss weeper," and she leaves a trail of tears in every department in which she is successively tried. E.R. Phillips, Charles Eldridge, Robert Gaillord, Charles Edwards and Richard Rosson all do good work. - The Moving Picture World, October 19, 1912
