i saw this film at the 2005 muff film fest after it won best film the previous year. pakis's film is full of bold energy and many laugh out loud moments. pakis who also directed, commands some really great performances out of his cast and although shot for the smell of an oily rag, has some genuinely eye catching production values. watching the film you get a sense this is simply the beginning of great things to come from the talent of gregory pakis. in a decade called the naughties, we have have seen endless pieces of sh** come out of the Australian film industry like thunderstruck and the extra (i could go on). seeing films like this gives me some hope that the times they are changing for the better in this country. that "doosh, doosh" stuff is catchy as hell. i found myself doing it the next day, for no reason what so ever.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I went to see The Garth Method. I certainly wasn't expecting to find such a gem of film. I loved it and I'm not at all surprised to see it has won so many awards – It's a highly original, well shot, very funny, beautifully cast and performed comedy that is sharp, gentle and hilarious all at the same time. It has a definite charm and yet it has a certain edge that really makes it stand out. Although made on a low budget, it's a hell of a lot better than most of the films I've seen for quite some time. Gregory Pakis (writer/dir.) should be extremely proud of himself. An excellent film - Definitely see it if you can.

- CuriosidadesWilliam Lustig pulled Gregory Pakis aside at the 2004 Melbourne Underground Film Festival where Lustig was president of the jury and complimented Pakis on his film saying that it reminded him of the early Martin Scorsese's film Quem Bate à Minha Porta? (1967). Lustig gave it Best Film, however, it did end up missing out by only one vote.
