Definitely, the most original, creative and insane episodes were the "dream sequence" stories, and this is a Top 10.
It all starts out with a duck? With food supplies being very low, the duck could mean rescue (by sending it back to Hawaii with a note attached?) OR a solid meal?? Gilligan is a hold out, an obvious lover of animals, while the castaways are preparing for a delicious duck dinner, the sooner the better. Bring on the chow!
All this leads to a camp dream sequence, a mini classic on steroids. Everyone dons western gear and finds themselves in a GUNSMOKE-type setting. Cowpoke Gilligan VERSUS the ruthless bad guys (in black), Mr. Howell and the professor? Of all people! The costumes are excellent and you can tell the cast is having a blast. Ginger is the perfect seductress, fashionably dressed to impress. Producer Sherwood Schwartz spent some extra bucks on wardrobe, and worth every penny. It's colorful episodes like this that were probably inspired by the BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, which in turn, inspired the costume designers on BATMAN.
True. Jim Backus "borrows" the famous line from his role in ITS A MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD..."It's the only way to fly..." while talking about the duck. Tom Montgomery did a super job directing, who also directed DOBIE GILLIS, co-starring Bob Denver.
Even if you're not a fan of the show, this will make you laugh. It's Nuts.
