My Dead Dad

This is the primary theme in Correa's touching play My Dead Dad, which explores how the concept of a connection might be reframed via reflection. Lucas moves to Los Angeles with the intention of quickly selling his father's property, but as the building and its tenants begin to take an emotional interest in him, his aims begin to diminish.

Aside from the catchy title, "My Dead Dad" brings to mind a particular style of independent film from the 1990s that combined a high concept with low budget and ultimately focused on moments, whether they were created by a single actor, between actors, or by a group of relatively unknown actors finding their voice. That's how "Dad" is; cleverly directed, gorgeously edited, and with a cast of actors who all get their moment to shine.

I honestly tried my best to give this a chance, but it's another one that I'd give to someone I was mad at. Perhaps it picked up after I was bored to sleep, but I'll never know. I'm an old man with only so much time left and I think it would be more exciting to cut an apple in half and watch it turn brown. Or, fill an aluminum piepan with water and watch it evaporate!

I don't know how something this small gets so overrated but wow. The plot never really went anywhere, there are artsy films that can pull that off and keep things entertaining, but this isn't one of them.

The movie seems like it's going to have a pretty interesting story about a guy who wants to be a pro skater, but that's mostly forgotten. It keeps jumping from generic character to generic character who all say generic indie movie things, but it never builds into anything more. It was competently acted, any scene felt like it could have been a small part of a good movie, but that good movie never appeared.

It seems clear that whoever made this movie never had a strained relationship with their parents and has never had a parent die. The emotional story felt very fake and bad.

Like other reviewers I thought the trailer and rating made it look good, but I was really disappointed.

I love being surprised. With My Dead Dad I totally was. It has all the working parts of a film festival champion. The lead Pedro Correa is sensational. Even more so because this film was his baby. I loved the home movie footage best. It was really believable. The acting is good, the direction simple yet nuanced. I loved it.

Well with a rating of over 7 i assumed i had at least a watchable film for tonighty, but Nope!

I always give any movie 20 minutes in which to draw me in, hold my attention, but i should have know with a 10/10 rating from the reviews, that's always a sign it's crap, which it is, utterly uninteresting, boring , zero good points at all.

I don't know what goes on past 23 minutes i gave it, which is way more than i would have, had it not had a rating of over 7, which of course is a shallow lie, and quite stupid one at that. Not sure any movie has a genuine 10 rating, very few i'd imagine as that figure denotes Perfection, which even directors etc would not claim. So stop entering these idiotic false ratings u ridiculous infantile brats, as your lie shall quickly be exposed and the trues rating of unwatchable be quickly revealed. Time waters!
