If you've not from the Bay Area or never even been to Oakland, then you will not get this show. And no, I'm not talking about Berkeley, or even Alameda County, I'm talkin' bout' the Town! The birthplace of the hyphy movement, that West coast pimp game, west coast spoken word, The Black panthers, and so much influential black culture, it's impossible to lay out in this post. The negative reviews are astonishing to me. Theshow is weird, just like the town of Oakland, which is what makes it so on point to the follow-up from the movie. If you don't know anything the Town, W. Kamau Bell has a good episode on United Shades of America. Please bring this show back for more seasons. And if you have never seen Rafel Casal do his spoken word, that is something you definitely need to check out!
From the creative storytelling to the spoken word solos and fantastic dance scenes, this show has it all! I stumbled on this show with no warning on plot line. Two episodes in I was hooked! I don't usually write reviews so this is short, but I honestly admire this show and the layers of art presented each episode.
The characters are real life and relatable. The stress of jail and what it does to families. The culture of multiple races all intersecting. Multigenerational families. Add to it a very well written script and some serious actors. This all blends with dream sequences and some of the most beautiful dance on film. Give it a try.

The show takes up very real, not-so-pleasant-to-digest topics affecting sections of the American society and gives it a stylized spin to make it less dark and easier to watch. Almost has the feel of a theatrical production. Towards this end, there is sporadic dancing and singing, spoken word poetry (very reminiscent of the style of 2020 AGT winner Brandon Leake); a good amount of animated, loud, unnatural, verbose dialogues; over-the-top characters, and so on. The show gets full marks for attempting something new, but that comes with the risk of not pleasing everyone. As evidenced by the all-over-the-place ratings on IMDb. The acting is good across the cast. The main lead is great. Helen Hunt does a great job, and is a pleasure to watch. To the reviewer who had a problem with her face, I want to say to them, it is called aging; there is no escaping it. We don't want the starts we have enjoyed watching over the years to hide, so let's welcome them into non-typecast roles for older stars in order to keep enjoying their talent.
This show did everything they said they were gonna do and more! Its new, fresh, creative, bold! Every Sunday I can't wait to see what we have in store! This is truly something different that I don't know if I would've enjoyed but everyone is talented and the writers are amazing! They have made something so fun and different that leaves you wanting more, and I do want more! Great show, props to everyone who was apart of it!
I was told about this show from a friend of mine and wanted to check it out. I'm definitely into it, but the random scene of dancing are weird and I feel completely unnecessary. They take over the show and every-time they come on I'm like WTF and I skip past it. I like the messages conveyed for sure.

- CuriosidadesA continuation of the story and characters from Ponto Cego (2018). Starz approached Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal about creating a follow-up to the film. The pair were initially hesitant, but later agreed when they decided to do more of a spin-off than a direct sequel, focusing on Jasmine Cephas Jones's character Ashley instead of their characters Collin and Miles.
