Like his previous oththa seruppu film, IN had great story to be shot as a proper live action film. It now has great staging and blocking, no doubt. But, it looked like theatrical drama. With Parthiban's sense of direction and shot conception, this film would have won real awards instead of 'world's first..' 'india's first..' etc. And VFX cg could have been better..
First we should appreciate Parthiban sir and whole team for pulling off this impossible task . Bring up this innovative idea and executing it well was just incredible . It was new experience to watch making video of the movie at first 30 mins before deep diving into it and it was necessary though . Without showing this making video at first , general audience may watch it as a normal movie , but by explaining meaning of non linear single shot , behind the scenes struggles and speciality of this movie really helped the audience to watch it at different perspective . Story was good and screenplay was well written . Movie shows the life of man from his childhood in non linear way and storytelling was dark and disturbing . Dialogues were really good , even in making video Parthiban never failed to score with his sarcasm . Performance wise whole cast done a great job , eventhough at pressured situation they never failed . Cinematography was backbone of this movie , still can't believe how they choreographed the transformation of one scene to other . AR Rahman again delivered a beautiful Bgm and songs especially " Maayava Chayava " and " Kaayam " was impressive . Drawbacks , few places dubbing was bit poor and Love failure song felt unwanted . Overall a new experience for me . It may not everyone's cup off tea . 18+ due strong profanity and few nudity , sexual content .
This is a fantastic experimental attempt at storytelling with a top-notch technical team. The plot is the catharsis of the protagonist as he recollects his life events. But, you are not able to connect with the character for it seems rushed and the screenplay just looks - like one bad event after another. The narrator describes even the good deeds he faced with a chain of bad events that it leads to. And, suddenly the protagonist redeems and it did not work. It's a great emotional story only deterred by its unique way of storytelling. But that's the intention - the making effort takes center stage here rather than the content. Do watch if you like experimental movies!!
Although many claimed that this film isn't the first non-linear narration destroying all its marketing effort to make it one, that whole discussion stopped abruptly and the film didn't seem to gain any awards.
Parthiban is a man who likes stealing the show from others and scoring in any place wherever he is and that's exactly the problem all his films have, we always get to see the narration from his perspective only and that sometimes feels so monotonous and so even if the film was made well, it just doesn't hold you in any way.
This is probably the first film where the entire world was shocked to know that the whole 1st part was just the making of this film as it portrays all the difficulties that they faced while. Making the entire film in a single shot, this might be a monumental film in that case, but the content was so dark and heavy, plus the performances looked so artificial and we just couldn't connect with the film especially watching the 2nd part after having watched the 1st part, so that's precisely my advice to you, if you haven't watched and are planning to watch it, watch it in reverse: watch 2nd half first and 1st half, at last, this way you might like the film also.
This film is definitely a different try with a humungous effort from the entire crew, these kinda films could only be made by people who're so much passionate about cinema like kamal & Partiban, idt, anybody else would fit that bill in Tamil cinema.

Hands off to parthiban for taking a challenge like this and executing this movie. Big salute to the art director and the whole production team who managed to put up a set like this. Parthiban claims it's the first single shot non linear movie. I am really surprised that they could pull off something like this in a single shot. The movie travells into different setups frequently and as early mentioned it is a non linear story narration. The love story especially the first one was my favorite. The camera man deserves a big praise for making this movie possible. The writing was good at many places but at some points it feels a bit dragged. Parthiban has proved that he is a director who always attempts to do something new with his every movie. AR rahmans songs were good, especially the telgu song. Parthiban and all the female characters who came in the movie gave very nice performance.
Since they use a lot of voice overs to narrate the story, it sometimes gets confusing which is his dilouges and which is the voice over. The climax didn't work for me much. The movie did not work for me much emotionaly also as it is supposed to work.
