Disappointing. So many unbelievable scenes with unexplained actions taken apparently on pure guesswork. More irritating is that there always has to be a senior male character or two who arrogantly overrides or dismisses information coming from the senior female officer despite her being seemingly the only one to discover and isolate a bomb minutes begore it explodes. Not at all credible and pushing the 'Women are just as good or even better at their jobs than men'. I suppose it's payback time for all those 1950's/60's where the hat wearing males treated the women in the same way which was just as annoying.
Firstly i want to defend the show, most people reviewing who are moaning about it being unrealistic when it comes to the policing side of things like no sh@t....its a tv show with certain time per episode so they're not going to go all into detail and start breaking out real protocols bomb squads follow...also the key to being good at bomb squad is not to show a bunch of actors what they do so they can show everyone including potential threats! Same for anti terrorism they wont give away any details to tv shows which is true....hence why hardly any help was given to the show by real bomb squads or special police groups...what was people expecting to tune in and see Vicky McClure kitted up doing the death walk like we're watching the Hurt Locker movie?
What i will say and fully agree with is the language and silly decisions the characters make, firstly screaming the F word didn't build tension it just came off bad and makes no sense to scream at someone panicking..also bomb squads would not have a thin police vest and some goggles to deal with bombs...they'll have full on body covered plating with not a bit of skin in sight!
Its not like the line of duty where they can ask for police inside help with the show as everything on the show is not revealing but when it comes to shows about terrorism of course they wont help the show so i dont expect it to be realistic at all, worth the watch but yeah dont expect realism!

A six part, explosive series, Jed Mecurio, Vicky McClure, this should, on paper, be brilliant......
For such a pedigree, this series was sadly, a real disappointment. If you're anything like me, you'll see the name Jed Mecurio, and get pretty excited, sadly this one just didn't land. It's not all bad, but sadly it's a real disappointment.
On the plus side, it looks nice, it's incredibly well filmed, it's slick, and the action scenes and explosives are impressive, Vicky McClure is excellent, and in fairness the first episode is rather good.
Unfortunately, it just runs out of steam very quickly, the tension feels forced, the plot is wafer thin, the eventual outcome just doesn't work. The characters lack any degree of depth, Lana apart, it's so hard to warm to any of them. Some of the acting is a little patchy in parts.
If you're desperate to watch it, you could quite easily watch parts one and six, as virtually nothing happens in the rest of it.
It was a ratings winner, and it was obvious that series two would follow, hopefully they do it a little better when it returns. 6/10.

I don't know about you but I've watched a whole shedload of UK based police dramas and once you learn pretty much anything about how the police have to obey rules, and that there's a methodology to police work, then you get a sense of when something is well written, even though it may be unrealistic.
But this...this.. is just unbelievable in almost every respect.
Countless times it sacrifices any sort of realism for cheap thrills and although I watched it until the end, then that was more because I was laughing at it rather than admiring it.
If you're looking for a reasonably well acted drama but with a mediocre script and an absurd sense of "turn it up to 11" plot where you need constant stimulation then this is for you.
4/10 is about right since it held my attention enough to watch until the end, but it's below average for this sort of production.

Very cheesy with occasional moments of genuine tension but there ends up being so many moments where you end up saying to yourself "really ?" . Disappointing.
