The Country I Saw, Part 3

Although she has already gotten into difficulties by publicly advancing her father's political opinion concerning the merits of the North Korean regime, a university professor by the name of "Kayama Aiko" (Kim Jong Wha) becomes even more scrutinized after a missile is launched from North Korea over the air space of Japan. As a result of this a Japanese diplomat named "Noda Shigenori" (Ri Yong Ho) is sent to Washington D.C. to increase the pressure upon North Korea to suit his hawkish masters in Tokyo. Unfortunately, he soon comes to see another side of the argument and because of this begins to not only harbor doubts about his country's foreign policy but also begins to gain an appreciation for North Korea's juche economic system and the leadership of Supreme Leader Kim Il Sung. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this could have been a decent film if it hadn't gone so overboard with its propaganda. Of course, the fact that this was intended for domestic consumption had much to do with this but the idea of the entire world revolving around North Korea is totally ridiculous in and of itself. Likewise, the assertion that North Korea was simply sending up a satellite and had no military intentions by these missile launches has been thoroughly discredited by history. That said, I found this particular narrative to be extremely dishonest and for that reason I have rated this film accordingly. Below average.
