Mars Red

Set in 1920s Japan, an elite force, "Code Zero" has been established to deal with vampires that are attacking in growing numbers. The members of Code Zero are complex with full-fledged lives, romantic relationships, and pasts. Some Code Zero soldiers are vampires themselves and others are turned as a result of their close combat with vampires. Vampires are weaponized by turning a majority of citizens into vampires through a government conspiracy. There are good cognizant vampires, evil cognizant vampires and a lot of zombie-like vampires. I'm shocked that there is only one season of this show. It's intricate and engaging enough to provide several seasons of worth-while watching.

This show has a real story which is quite different from the normal shonen buls**t. In this show the death means something. Also the writer has heavyly inspired by tragedy like romeo juliet , solomé etc the ending was good for me and exceptional considering the character arcs Dont binge watch it , the more you give time to this show the more you'll see through a character and the moral questions it poses Truely wonderful.

Mars Red is amazing vampire anime with amazing English voice acting Sean Schemmel Zach Aguilar Christopher Guerrero Aaron Dismuke Caitlin Glass And Reagan Murdock and Ciaran Strange and Dawn M. Bennett The show also has some pretty great character development amazing animation and great score.

And even though there ain't whole lot of action in the show there were a few pretty entertaining visual fights that I did enjoy quite a bit. And I thought the show had quite a few emotional moments.

So if you don't mind a slow burn anime I definitely think you're going to enjoy Mars Red I know I did....

An anime about vampires that is adapted from a stage reading by the same name. In 1923, the Japanese government creates a new unit within the army to counter the vampire's increasing numbers and their new artificial blood source.

I had to use synopsis from wiki because I had no idea what the show was really about. This was the most confusing show in terms of storytelling. The first couple episodes were pretty okay as things were slowly set up. However, about after an earthquake, the show spiraled into a mess where every time I watched a new episode, I thought I just missed some episodes before. The plot jumped between characters at a seemingly random fashion that I had no idea what's going on. Despite this, I still get the general sense of what was going on.

The animation was not an issue here. It looked different from other anime, and it made the show felt more mysterious and like a play. There wasn't much vampire action, as the animators seemed to try to avoid animating the fight scenes in full sequences.

With a confusing story came confusing characters. Maeda was a MC for the first half, and for some reason he vanished and got relegated into a side characters. There was a relationship between two vampires, Deflot and Rufus that made no sense because they didn't have a proper backstory at all. Other side characters were also confusing as well.

The ending of this show, again, didn't hit at all because of how disoriented the storytelling was. Some characters just lost for no reason. The more I watched the show the more "what" moments I had.

Overall, despite decent animation, the jumbled story took away a lot of entertainment that I could have. Quite a wasted potential. 4/10.

OK, it's a little different than most anime about vamps, or even live action shows for that much. Unlike at least one other reviewer, I found the plot easy to follow. Here is all the plot items that I could even imagine MIGHT be confusing for someone (again, not confusing at all for me and I suspect not confusing for most).

-There is one episode where it is primarily a flashback backstory, and then there are some scenes here and there that also do so.

-Late in the series, it was a little difficult for a minute or two, to determine if a series main character was thinking back to memories or whether he was imagining events that never happened.

-There was a significant event, about halfway through, the sort of thing that divides everything into "before" and "after". Until the next episode I couldn't be sure if it was from a natural disaster or an explosion created by either the humans or a vampire.

All that aside, I wouldn't call this anime "great". It's pretty good. It's more on the serious side with little "fan service" nonsense. Sometimes predictable, sometimes not... which is significant to me as so many are very predictable. I don't expect this to fall on the "favorites" list of many people, but it's certainly not bad and will probably warrant some honorable mentions.

In short- not amazing but certainly not a waste of time. If you like more serious anime and especially if you also like he vampire genre (when more serious), you will probably enjoy this series.
