I never thought she actually would've done that, so early, so fast, but I'm happy with that choice because now we have more and bigger problems, that's the price of revenge.
The writing of this episode feels like a movie by itself, we have all the three acts of a classic movie, we have character's desire and obstacle, we have the antagonist and why is that person(a) the antagonist, feels like a movie, and they made of this episode an extraordinary Ruth Langmore movie, btw, I freaking love the flashbacks, specially that one when Ruth and Wyatt were children. That's so sad, man.
This was a great but a little confuse episode, we know is more about Ruth all the time, so, how is this season gonna end if Ruth is kinda useless for Marty and Wendy's plot line?, I'm intrigued by that.

That is the best criminal drama of our time for the reason. Thrilling. Chilling. Stylish.
I am just speechless. Superb acting, great direction and the music as a cherry on the top.

This episode so very well follows from the Episode 7, but is totally opposite to it in the tone and setting. Whereas, this episode portrays everything that the this show has carried - you can be killed anytime and with no emotion. It is not the storm that should scare you, but the normalcy and the silence in this muddy lake.
Julia Garner was again spot on this episode, with such a powerful acting delivered. She carries her emotion in balance, but in a very raw state. The flashbacks and Ruth's plans are all very well crafted, with such an engaging sync with the story. I really liked the color scale and camera placements, especially the cafe scene with Ruth has been amazingly crafted.
This was a solid opening for the second part, and guess everything is up for takes now. But, you first gotta wipe it clean of all the blood.

I'll educate you. In the beginning of the episode with the flashback...Wyatt and Ruth are talking about classic hip hop albums. Wyatt mentions Nas' Illmatic. For those who don't know, Nas is widely regarded as the goat of hip hop and Illmatic is regarded as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Sooo that's why Ruth puts in Illmatic in her car and is listening to it throughout the episode. And the title of this episode "The Cousin Of Death" is a direct reference to one of the songs off Illmatic "NY State Of Mind."
Você sabia?
- CuriosidadesThe title is based on a line from "N.Y. State of Mind" by Nas: "I never sleep, 'cuz sleep is the cousin of death." Ruth listens to the 'Illmatic' album throughout the episode, which features the song as the second track.
- Erros de gravaçãoBeing a career criminal, Ruth would know her cell phone would ping in Chicago and would have brought a burner or no phone at all.
- Cenas durante ou pós-créditosThe title card symbols are: Z - urinal, A - hoodie, R - bobcat, and K - a highway with the exits overlapping.
