A very good documentary, where the Malvinas is narrated from the point of view of journalism, as were the coverage of the time, how television occupied many hours of programming on the subject.

It is very interesting above all, what was thought that year ... and what it ended up being.

For me, an atypical proposal of the already several documentaries that we have on this subject.

The only thing that seemed strange to me were the transitions from one file to another, it was very Movie Maker.

Abstract

This documentary by Lucas Gallo, made up exclusively of the coverage made by the government channel of the time (ATC) of the Malvinas War in 1982 and of the painful special television program Las 24 hours por Malvinas, constitutes a devastating reminder of one of the most perverts of the last civic-military dictatorship, when Argentina was closest to fascism, through an irresponsible war adventure for which General Leopoldo Galtieri, at the head of the third military junta, sought, through this fascist turn, to perpetuate himself in a power which was beginning to waver and ended up decreeing its end thanks to the British and US reaction.

A striking example of what we would now call "media shielding" that nevertheless eloquently reflects the shameful jingoistic fervors of the time (media and common people) and the tragic trap of a genocidal dictatorship that cost the lives of hundreds of young Argentines .

Lucas Gallo's documentary is made up exclusively of coverage of the invasion and occupation of the Falkland Islands in 1982 by ATC news, the state television of the third stage of the Argentine civic-military dictatorship headed by General Leopoldo Galtieri , on the part of his forces, in an improvised and irresponsible war adventure from which Galtieri sought, through a fascist turn, to perpetuate himself in a power that was beginning to waver and that ended up decreeing its end thanks to the British and US reaction.

For the Argentine viewer who lived through that time, the documentary is extremely hard, devastating, and implies meeting a series of nefarious characters and one of the most perverse and distressing moments of the dictatorship. The central newscast of the time was called 60 minutes and was hosted by José Gómez Fuentes (with a style very similar to that of some right-wing journalists today) and María Larreta. The only correspondent on the islands was Nicolás Kasanzew.

A special live program called Las 24 hours por Malvinas, aimed at raising funds for the war, was also broadcast by ATC, hosted by the two most famous entertainers of the time, Pinky (whose oratory makes the hair stand on end) and Cacho Fontana and where some of the most popular figures of the time paraded (I will not say which ones: you have to see the documentary to be surprised or outraged again).

Some material at times shows a precarious pamphlet worthy of the comedian Capusotto TV show.

What would now be called "media shielding" was total, in terms of the true course of events. However, the images show the shameful support of a part of the population for Galtieri's adventure, in some cases with jingoistic fervors worthy of a football match, ignoring the ilk of the character and his government and with a naivety that seemed unaware that the United Kingdom would never renounce the possession of one of its colonies, in this tragic trap of a genocidal dictatorship that cost the lives of hundreds of young Argentines.
