This could have been longer, this could have included more things Mike Hammer ... but as it is, it is not just a curiosity! It is quite a fine short documentary about how this particular Anti Hero came to be! And was more than just a welcome extra on the Criterion Collection Blu Ray I bought of Kiss me Deadly.
There have been quite a few incarnations of this detective and there probably have been many more incarnations that most of us know. And even if it isn't a direct incarnation, many have been influenced by Mike Hammer and what Mickey Spillane made of him. He also has some frank words on some of the things that were made of Mike Hammer ... how he was treated and so forth. While you might not have guessed it, Spillane apparently is religious. Mike Hammer can be the vigilante ... the Callahan before the Callahan ... really nice look back and not just for fans (though I reckon they will get more out of this than anyone else).
