The Long Con

4 years of my life down the drain. And it was worth every second. This film is my baby and of course I'm giving it 10. Its not a perfect film but its a film that perfectly captured filmmaking in a bottle for me.

The best film yet from Dan and Joel. I liked the characters and the plot. Complete with a stunning twist at the end. I can't wait to see what comes next from 922 films. This film was a departure from previous film in that it kept my attention longer.

Waited 3 long years to see this film, And boy, was it worth the wait. A film with many twists and turns. Dan Lotz does it again with amazing music, audio that pairs up with the suspenseful scenes. All the actors were spot on character. Coloring was beautiful in so many scenes as well. Lotz's best work yet. Do yourself a favor and watch this. Heard it was made with less than $3K - that's just nuts to think a film this good was made for so little money. What a committed team all around. Lotz and the 922 team will go very far, very fast.

This is by far Dan Lotz's most 'commercial' film and as such it stands a great chance of being a gateway film for people into the world of truly independent filmmaking, or as Dan calls it, 'folk filmmaking'. What that means is filmmaking by the people, often for budgets that are so low it's hard for a lot of people to imagine a film could be made for that amount. But these films are made, and they are quite good. The Long Con was made for $3000 and it does not show. There is a lot of artistry on display here, but also a lot of technical prowess, and of course talent. It is an unusual film, but it is an accessible one. Very tense and quirky. I think this should please most audiences.

So, I actually discovered this movie because it was recommended on IMDb based on my own zero-budget film, The Middle Men, and I have to say I was really pleasantly surprised for a film with a budget of $3K. This is the first film by Dan Lotz I've seen, but the cinematography was pretty great and the story was really interesting and pretty tight, not to mention it had some pretty great needle-drop moments. I really enjoyed this and I look forward to seeing more from 922 in the future. It's definitely worth the watch, if not for the aforementioned reasons, just for the fact that it's a well done low budget film that shows what you can do without a huge budget.
