Corte no Tempo

I didn't have much expectations to begin with but I'm a fan of Griffin Gluck's acting and like Antonia Gentry from Ginny and Georgia, so I was intrigued from the start.

I don't know if the writing was purposely making it as corny as possible, but it was super corny.

A lot of things didn't line up- I know it's technically sci-fi but come on!!! At least MAKE it make sense in regards to time travel!

It wasn't awful & has major potential for it to be good- but by the end I found myself in disbelief and questioned why Antonia and Griffin would accept these roles.

As stated in the title, the best thing about it (IMO) is the awesome early 2000s sound track.

I've been waiting for this film for three years. Unfortunately, it's very hard to love. The violence is surprisingly tame, and no murder is shown on screen. (Beware, Terrifier fans!) It's not even PG-13, it's borderline PG. The recent trend of making films as desaturated and bleak as possible has plagued Time Cut as well, which simply makes no sense since the 2000s were famously colorful to the point of tastelessness. The editing is another issue-it's too twitchy to ignore. The killer teleports so much even Jason Voorhees would get uncomfortable, and his mask is some Max Headroom knock-off. Most importantly, the script itself is so increasingly fatigued that the third act can only be described as anticlimactic and unsatisfactory.

The silver lining is that it has a variety of modern Canadian scream queens: Marina Stephenson Kerr (in a clearly reduced to blink-and-you'll-miss-it role; Channel Zero), Sydney Sabiston (All Fun and Games), Megan Best (Elevator Game) and Summer Howell (in what might be described as a cameo; Curse of Chucky). Alas, the lead actors didn't impress me that much. The soundtrack is decent and full of familiar songs of the era. The only truly satisfying thing might be the clothes-they were on-brand for the decade. The costume designer is arguably the only person involved who was actually invested in her job.

All and all, no matter how you look at Time Cut, it's just not enough. It lacks some of the vital skills of a horror film, such as being scary. It's not funny, it's not smart, it's not totally killer, and it's not even trendy. Ugh, as if!

I wanted to like this one. I love time travel movies - especially when it involves scenarios like this story (someone was killed in the past and the protagonist tries to change the situation), as they also often involve a mystery (like this one did as well). Some folks might see a lot of similarities between this film and Totally Killer, which came out last year. They also might feel like this was a ripoff of the other movie, but this was written before Totally Killer, so this seems to just be a matter of timing for both films. Totally Killer wasn't a huge hit for me, so I was hoping that this would end up being a more enjoyable experience, but sadly that wasn't the case. While it got off to an interesting start, the contrivances and ludicrous scenarios (like a couple of teens being able to slip easily through the gates of a NUCLEAR FACILITY WITHOUT GETTING CAUGHT) - as well as the "forbidden love" scenario that played out in here (which felt inserted just for the sake of messaging) - were just too much. And the reveal of the killer (who I had already guessed) was so ridiculous and did not hold up to any level of scrutiny. The main actor also wasn't very convincing (or likable) for me, and I got a bit weary of the constant creased forehead/worried/conflicted/sad/tormented expression she wore pretty much the entire film. On top of that, she constantly contradicted herself with her actions/decision-making. The ending was also rushed and nonsensical, despite its attempt to come up with a "solution" that solved all the problems. It just felt forced and unfortunately did not stick the landing. Sometimes when they make slasher movies that aren't gory they end up good, like "Happy Death Day" or "Countdown" because they have to be creative and build suspense. This isn't one of those times. There are no good suspenseful moments, there are no jump scares.

There is the mystery about the killer and a bit of unique fun with the possible effect saving someone might have. That earns it about a 5.5 rating.

If you were a teen in 2003 then the nostalgia might be enough to make it more enjoyable.

It never gets annoying enough to turn off but it also never gets good enough to make it really worth while.

I know that they rarely use actual teenagers to play high school students but Summer often looked old enough to be playing someone's mom.

The first thing that comes in mind when you see the synopsis is Totally Killer from last year. Apparently this was written before and its just a coincidence but its impossible to not make the connection.

Set in the early 2000s instead of the 80s, and trying to save a sister she never knew instead of a mom are the differences but the rest is very close.

I personally left high school right around 2003 but in my opinion the movie missed the mark on the time period it try to portray. There is maybe one line that made me smile (mentioning Twitter, Facebook and then MySpace wich had a few great years in the late 2000s but disapeared very fast) but altough they use some stuff wich were still popular at that time like discman or Buffy posters, i never got much of the 2000s vibe. If anything it feels like they trying to portray the late 90s instead.

When it comes to slasher aspects, the movie has very few kills and it almost seem like an afterthought at times. They could had done so much with the mystery killer but it was pretty easy to figure out. The mask once again look pretty similar to Totally Killer and can't say anything was very memorable with this character.

With all of that said, there was other aspect i liked. The whole idea of Lucy (the main character) life pretty much living in the shadow (and dark cloud) of a sister she never knew with parents that could never move on, but then experiencing how it could had been. Bonding with that sister had its moments too.

Im gonna go with a 6 out of 10 because the movie is easy to watch and didn't bored me. But its a movie that would likely get the "not gonna remember it in t-minus 1 day" by Jeremy Jahns.

Certainly worth a watch as its included with your subscription if you enoy this genre. But will not become a cult classic or anything.
