The Mountain Detective

The actors are outstanding, each so unique to the story. In fact, they seem like authentic characters. Each episode is greatly enhanced by the in-depth development of every person. Mountain climbing, sky diving, backpacking, etc, intense outdoor scenes are incredible to view. It is intriguing to learn even a trifle of the farm and field work depicted in this location. Each story grabs and holds my attention. I wish there were 20 per season with many, many seasons as I am totally hooked. I am in love with the breathtaking scenery. If only I had learned to speak French, I would love to tour France and the Alps.

This show has plenty of icing but very little cake. Shot in the French Alps this series has the needed resources to become a classic. Trouble is the writing is adolescent as directed, the camera work save the beautiful background scenery is stolid, lacking any life and there are all sorts of silly camera mistakes that only a neophyte director/editor would miss. MD needs some Hitchcock to raise the level of drama and suspense.

While the actors for the most part seem perfectly capable of delivering captivating and thrilling performances, the direction is worse than a bad soap opera. There's no life, no style, no grace in the camera movement or angles. This was shot like a low budget tv commercial. It's really a shame because as I said, everything is in place to make something special if they'd just brought in a better director and editor.

This show annoyed me to no end except the voluptuous beauty of the high Alps with its jagged snow covered mountains, luscious evergreen valleys, sumptuous alpine meadows and clear mountain streams of melting glacier ice. I'll keep watching for that beauty with the hope that these talented actors will get the artistic direction they deserve because all these elements afford them the chance to stretch their legs and get on with some truly creative and exciting film making.

The 6 star rating I gave it indicates the lack of quality tv series available.

Excellent Series, none better. Very close to Longmire. Cant wait for Season 2, 3 4,etc.... The best, actors, locations, etc. The best. Please leave on forever.

What an excellent series!! Storylines are intense and not always predictable! Characters are enjoyable. The scenery is incredible. Hope to have access to the next season. Will it be available on PBS Masterpiece streaming app?

One of the best series out there. Episode 1 is slow to develop but ends well. The remaining 8 episodes are suspenseful with great story lines. After episode 2 you are hooked. Each actor plays their role to perfection and Alex is outstanding. There couldn't be a better setting than this beautiful mountain valley in the south of France. Non- French speakers should not be deterred from watching. We hardly realize we're reading subtitles because each story is so good. Finally, the writers have consistently instilled strong societal values that leave you feeling good at the end.

The only disappointment is Amazon Prime & Masterpiece only offered Season 1.
