Rob Rinder's Interrogation Secrets

I have to say that I find ROB RINDER'S INTERROGATI0N SECRETS a very forward, open programme about the way police agents manipulate the truth, lie, introduce only partly true facts, all in order to secure a confession from a suspect. It can be quite scary to see how one is confined to a room to field all manner of probing questions, and how police personnel either invent a phone call to interrupt an interrogation, and give the detective the time to reassess and possibly introduce fresh elements to crank up the pressure, knowing that the suspect does not have the same amount of information as police, and very likely is already psychologically down for being taken into an interrogation room.

Watch how police tell you where and how to seat - careful when the detective moves close to you, he/she is getting into your defenses - watches your body language, your every facial expression, any face scratching, nose wrinkling, your folding and unfolding of arms, your tapping feet, any sign of nervousness... BIG BRO IS WATCHING AND WORKING YOU OUT!

Lesson to learn: don't do anything that could land you in an interrogation room!

First, one must consider why would these interrogations be part of the series. So I didn't feel there was much compelling mystery in the episodes themselves. The ultimate outcome kind of felt "telegraphed" just because it's a series. The "when" and "what" specifics were still intriguing though.

While each episode is really kind of the same thing... one thing is made abundantly clear throughout the series..... NONE of the people being "interviewed" were smart enough or had the wherewithal to actually request an attorney and heed actual educated legal advice. Each episode feels like a mouse being fed to the cats... the police are professionals and it's clear those being interviewed are not. It's honestly not very surprising each episode turns out like it does.

I'm not sure how many "secrets" were revealed... much of it seemed like just common sense. Perhaps not common sense that is at the forefront of one's mind, but things average people are aware of - e.g. Folding arms means you're closed off. That sort of thing. Most of the time these "secrets" result in more moments of recognition, not epiphany.

Still each episode is interesting. The series somewhat seemed like special episodes of MANY true crime interview shows on network TV in the US - 48hrs came to mind several times. Nothing was really remarkable or different about this series.

But still I did watch all the episodes, so that is saying something.
