Digging for Treasure: Tonight

I've been a detectorist for almost 10 years.

It's a hobby that can consume you to the edge of obsession.

Most detectorists are passionate about the quest to discover historical artefacts to the point where we can positively be regarded as proper anoraks.

Most care about the land they're searching and the protection of the artefacts they find.

They are knowledgeable about history and spend many hours researching the land they have gained permission to detect on.

What they are not (mostly), are treasure hunters who need a giddy, whooping and hollering bunch of presenters on a TV show, trying to make it all a bit more exciting to people who aren't familiar with the game.

I genuinely felt sorry for the FLO on the show. He's obviously a very knowledgeable guy but I can't help feeling he didn't want to be there.

Whilst I'm relatively pleased that a TV show has been created about metal detecting, I genuinely think they're missing the point of it and couldn't watch more than 1 episode.

All the pointless clapping, cheering and giddiness is just too much.

I bet even the legendary Graham Rushden from Unearthed cringes when he watches himself on it.

And why the hell was it shot at night?
