My Best Nut

I saw this short film at the Lake County Film Festival recently and thought it was very good. At the Q&A afterwards, I learned it was the true story of the writer and his friend from high school.

His friend with an eclectic personality suddenly finds out he has testicular cancer and has to spend some time in the hospital. While there, his colorful personality charms everyone, the other patients and the staff alike.

The acting on all accounts was superb and you will get sucked in immediately. It won't be long before you are in love with this guy.

I recommend your seeing this film...but bring the tissues. It runs the gamut on emotions.

My Best Nut takes you on a heartwarming, funny, and ultimately moving journey in a mere 22 minutes. Blessed with a witty script and smart direction, this cast of charming actors succeeds in creating believable, grounded characters that draw you in from the get-go and make you truly care about the world they inhabit. Jude Roche (as the protagonist Jude) brings a beautiful balance of humor and heart to his performance, as his character works to find the joy in the tough set of cards he's been dealt. The rest of the ensemble follows suit, successfully navigating the comedic and poignant moments of this short. This film is sure to make you laugh -- and will quite possibly leave you grabbing for a Kleenex or two at the end.
