Rock Bottom Creek was pretty impressive for a local horror film. I got a flier for the movie from a Halloween Express and decided to give it a go after the clerk told me that this movie was made by people in the area. Now let me explain why I rated this movie somewhere around a 7. I noticed that there were a few votes that gave this movie a 1 this is way too low of a score and suggests that the voter probably didn't see this movie at all and there were some 10's which may be a little too generous for this type of movie. This movie hits the mark as being an interesting horror flicks with bits of dark humor, intense action, and creativity and for that this movie is worthy of a decent score. My only complaints about this film is that it was really loud at times and there was an obvious product placement for a comic book store in the movie which made me think of Wayne's World.
The movie follows a couple as they embark on a weekend road trip. The girlfriend of this group was one of the better actors in the movie but the boyfriend is not without his charm as well. His interaction with the people in Rock Bottom Creek keep you interested in what is going to happen next. At this point the movie begins to feel like Halloween and Grindhouse, remixed with Troma films.
The plot was easy to follow and satisfied a horror fans blood lust without going overboard like most low budget films attempt to do. In fact the most horrific scene does not even involve anyone getting killed but it does involve a disgusting toilet bowl and a face.
Rock Bottom Creek has potential and could pick up a strong cult following. The screening I went to was packed and two guys came out to introduce the movie and then the actors were in the lobby afterward talking to the audience. I love the fact that these guys are from my town and shot a part of the movie here at the mall too!
