Marie genuinely feels like it should be a television series or a full-length sci-fi film. The short presents an intriguing premise: two characters trying to survive in a post-invasion world, where hostile aliens track any use of electrical devices.
An Amish man, accustomed to living off the grid, has settled on a remote farm he discovered. In the barn, he stumbles upon a mysterious sleeping pod-powered not by electricity but by chemicals. Inside lies a woman named Marie. He dreams of her daily, speaking to her in his mind and imagining her through the lens of his conservative religious beliefs. However, photos in the house suggest a very different reality: Marie is clearly a heavy metal fan, likely used to a wild and liberal lifestyle.
The contrast between them is striking, and when she eventually wakes up, it becomes even more apparent-especially as it turns out she holds some amazing, potentially game-changing secrets.
The acting and visual effects are solid, and the story world has real potential to be expanded. I hope the director continues this narrative, whether as a series or a full-length feature.
