Paul Kattupalli's second film is terrible. Hitler's Girl is plagued by terrible audio issues, bizarre camera cuts, and a script that will make you cringe harder than Michael Scott.
For most of the film, characters spew bizarre non-sequiturs at one another as if their dialogue is lifted straight from Wikipedia articles. These moments happen so often that even one of the characters begins to grow frustrated by it all, almost as if the movie became self-aware. It proves to be a rare moment of relatability and genuine human behavior amidst a sea of talking heads delivering article headlines and mind-numbing trivia.
While it's undeniably a terrible, awful, no good film, I do feel bad for everyone involved so I think I should write some positives here. Hitler's Girl is slightly more focused than Kattupalli's first film, Clash in the College. The A-plot does occupy most of the film's runtime and it does actually lead somewhere. The B-plot however, Paul Kattupalli's vacation footage, goes nowhere and is pointless. Still, his message of unity and tolerance is ultimately a good one even if it's delivered clumsily. It's my hope that this means he's improving as a writer and a director.
But for the love of God, if you or someone you know is in Kattupalli's orbit, help him with the audio. It's so, so bad.
