The Exorcist: Untold

Quite interesting in that there's some material I haven't seen before , various interviews, news items etc.

The bad bits: the narrator/voiceover sounds amateurish.

C'mon, it wouldn't have taken too much to hire someone decent to do it.

Secondly - and this is the lazy bit - there are lots of clips, interviews and old news items with varying aspect ratios that they didn't bother to correct, resulting in stretched images.

Even the most basic editing software caters for this so there's no excuse and it looks shoddy.

Worth a watch for Exorcist fans but there are many better documentaries about the film.

I thought this documentary was a mixed bag. Some scenes are completely unnecessary and make no sense in the context of the story that is being told, while other aspects of the production are truly interesting and enlightening.

There's a lot of discussion of what goes into making a great enduring film like this, including perfectionistic direction by the overbearing Friedkin and hyper-editing (similar painstaking attention to film editing also made the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre an enduring masterpiece). Other context given is how The Exorcist was filmed on location in Georgetown, D. C. and New York City and this gave the filmmakers a lot of indie-style freedom removed from the Hollywood formula that churns out numerous mediocre movies.

I enjoyed this, I know a lot will say we knew that before or we are not learning anything we didn't already know, but it is a great way to spend 80 minutes or so. Good location shots and some rare interviews from the 70s. Nice to hear blattys widow talking about him also. Interesting enough and I visited the steps and the house this year and was great to see footage of the unavailing of the plaque for the steps back in 2015. It is still there and the whole area is very iconic to this movie. Will enjoy watching this again and it is a must for your collection in my opinion. Watch it and enjoy it for what it is.
