Avram Iancu Împotriva imperiului

Given the short notice, short time filming, and short production, the movie ended up great! As I have read through some articles I understood that this is a private movie made by some people who wanted to inform the population about the life of our national hero. The point of this project was not to create a hollywood cinematic masterpiece using a huge budget, as user "av_zoloft" thought in his review. Any information about the movie and about how it is a documentary, was all over the internet, you need to only search for it.

The only downside is that the movie started a bit abruptly, at the beginning we are already during the revolution, with a backstory that was not easy to understand if you were not already informed about it. This can leave a lot of people confused, especially when they don't know why the revolution started.

It is not a typical docu-drama, there is also a narrator who jumps in to explain certain aspects between the scenes. Some people liked it, some people disliked it, but for me it was quite refreshing after all the other basic docu-dramas that I've watched. You could say it was more "docu" than "docu-drama", which as I mentioned feels refreshing, because most docu-dramas nowadays focus more on the drama part and forget about the documentary part. I prefer movies like these rather than pathetic movies like napoleon.

In conclusion, it is a good movie, worth watching if you are interested to see a documentary and you like history. It is not a movie to watch if you want to have fun with your friends on a night out, if you did that and got disappointed, it is your own fault, don't blame the movie or the producers.

I do not want to be rude to my Romanian friends but this reminds me of another Balkan "great" called Goce Delchev and adopted by Macedonians and Bulgarians as a national hero... all he was at the time: a horny youngster killed when caught with a married woman. Interestingly, you cannot find any of those events in the history books! So, here is another hero's life presented through a docu-drama with bad acting and very annoying narration by a guy who was probably cool about 40 years ago. Those professors and guest interviewed saw this like their last chance to be seen... If you are not Romanian who is crazy about questionable history, stay away from it. This film is just another tool for distraction from the truth!

The movie is a documentary, actually first romanian docudrama.

You need to know some historical background to fully understand all points, during the movie. But it is well narrated with very well structured information.

It is not easy to understand what characters says if you are unfamiliar with Transylvanian accent or old word used 150-200 years ago in that region. But it think this is one of the most interesting and authentic aspect of the whole movie.

Overall, the movie does a good job. It has realistic perspective of historical events. And we must keep in mind that it is a low budget film.

It is the first historical film made in Romania, different from the classic films of Sergiu Nicolaescu. It is a new vision, a very successful docu-drama that highlights very well the life and what Avram Iancu went through.

The movie keeps you very attentive. The information is very well structured.

The actors play very well. I was delighted with Horia Fedorca, who blends in very well with the character and closely resembles Avram Iancu in his youth. The ending is a bit unexpected, but very well done.

I recommend it to everyone who likes historical films. It's a good movie, which I personally liked!

It is a DOCUMENTARY film; This should have been mentioned from the very beginning so that the world knew what to expect; As for the content...it's like that... From what was wanted to present the image of the great Avram Iancu in the most correct version of him historically speaking, it partially succeeded.

The film is made up more of narrated sequences from his life, too documentary, too lacking in cursive and the ending is too abrupt. In addition, you need a minimum historical culture of the respective times, otherwise you will not understand anything and you will be left with a bitter taste regarding the Hungarians/Romanians/Transylvania, etc... For information and the attempt of the young director, I gave 7; It's so worth it.

As for recommending or not.... Rather than going to romanian actor Codin Matciuc's movies, this is much better... But if you expect to spend a great evening...better watch Netflix ;)
