The intro pulled me in fast. I didn't even check my phone once, which says a lot. The atmosphere was intense, and every scene felt like it mattered. The camera work was clean, the lighting was on point, and the sound design added a ton of tension. It honestly felt like a masterclass in how to start a movie right.
The way they built everything up was impressive. There was a solid rhythm to how the story moved, and you could tell a lot of time and thought went into the setup. The characters were introduced smoothly, and the world they created felt real and believable. I was fully locked in.
But then it hit a wall.
About two-thirds into the movie, things started to slip. And by the time the ending rolled around, it was clear: they had either run out of time, budget, or energy - maybe all three. The final act felt completely rushed. It was like they just wanted to wrap things up as fast as possible. There was barely any payoff for all the buildup we got earlier. Big questions were left unanswered, and moments that should've hit hard just kind of... didn't.
The ending felt lazy. Not in a "we didn't care at all" way, but more like "we didn't plan this part out properly." You could see the difference in effort. The quality dropped, the pacing sped up too much, and characters that had been developed early on were suddenly just background noise. It honestly felt like a different movie by the time it ended - and not in a good way.
It's frustrating, because the film had the potential to be great. The opening made me think I was watching one of the best films of the year. But a great start doesn't matter if you don't finish strong. And this film didn't. It faded out instead of going out with impact.
That said, I'm not saying don't watch it. There's still a lot to like here - especially the first half. If you're into movies with strong direction, nice visuals, and a gripping start, you'll probably enjoy most of it. But if you're the type who needs a solid, satisfying ending to feel like it was worth your time, this one might leave you disappointed.
Bottom line: amazing start, weak finish. A film that grabs your attention early, but lets go too soon. It deserved better. I'd give it a 7 or maybe a 8 out of 10, mostly because of how strong the first half is. But yeah - if they had nailed the ending, we'd be talking 9 or even 9.5 easily.
Aside from the music, I could tell I was watching high-quality filmmaking within five minutes. The directing, camerawork, editing, and sound design are pristine. The entire cast does a great job, but Michael B. Jordan shines. He is a superstar.
Sinners is also surprisingly funny, without taking away from the seriousness. And the horror elements are... satisfying. This movie goes hard.
Advice: Certain scenes have an expanded aspect ratio that will only be shown in IMAX. If you can't go to an IMAX, any premium screen will do (Dolby Cinema, UltraScreen, EMX, etc). This movie benefits more than most from the larger screen and louder speakers.
Also, I missed A LOT of the dialogue, you may want to ask for a closed caption device.

Production, costume, make up, visuals are very good.
Story is meh. Standard vampire look and behavior. Another movie implying some faith doesn't work in fighting demons but a voodoo mojo does, nothing new there.
I dislike musicals so its musical parts added nothing for me. The past and future music evoked could have been more abstract, but they were real people in different eras costumes mingling in, kinda ruined the believability of the 1930s vibe for me. Looked like a silly company dinner and dance instead.
Can totally see certain demographic overhyping this. Again, nothing new.
An okay watch overall, fun at times.
In conclusion: This movie is too boring and slow to be an entertaining action-comedy and doesn't take the humor and fight scenes far enough to really have an impact. At the same time this movie is far too ridiculous to be a serious scary and emotional movie that reaches you on any kind of emotional level.
I would have liked it, if they would have sacrificed the humor for building a serious threat that feels genuinely scary and terrifying. The cinematography, costumes and music are fantastic but this is just not enough for me to make it a good film, when the story is not hitting. There are single parts of the movie that I absolutely loved and I would have really appreciated those scenes as standalone music videos, but it just doesn't mix well with the rest in my personal opinion.
In addition to my previous criticisms I spotted some typical clichés in the dialogue writing that made me roll my eyes and there were some moments where I found it extremely hard to believe that certain characters survived. I could go in to detail here but I want to keep my review vague to avoid spoilers.
To me watching this movie felt a bit like eating chocolate on a burger - Both elements are nice by themselves but together they don't make for a nice meal.
Are you all really that shallow and bored you will give any movie that title.
As a drama movie I will give it a 7.
As a horror not more than a 6.
There are maybe 2-3 jump scares. And the story is half decent. It. Could have been used to build a great movie. But there is none of that. Maybe the blues fans will enjoy a song or two but that's it. Too many characters introduced, very little development on each front. Sets are decent.
Don't listen to all bought reviews online.

- CuriosidadesIt's particularly significant that Remmick is introduced fleeing from Choctaw hunters. Not only is the movie set in the historic Choctaw homeland, there is a long history of cooperation between the Choctaw (and Native America more broadly) and the Irish. The Irish Potato Famine occurred sixteen years after the Choctaw, Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole, and Chickasaw peoples were forced to walk the Trail of Tears. Knowing tragedy and hunger themselves, Choctaw and Cherokee survivors donated hundreds of dollars to support famine relief. In 2017, Ireland erected the Kindred Spirits sculpture in acknowledgment of friendship between the two peoples, with a companion sculpture called Eternal Heart installed on Choctaw land in 2024. When the Coronavirus Pandemic began in 2020 and the Navajo and Hopi nations were hit especially hard, Ireland sent a two million dollar donation, accrediting it to Choctaw kindness in their time of need.
- Erros de gravaçãoWhen Smoke and Stack are waiting for Hogwood early in the movie to buy the sawmill from him, they are casting notably different shadows while standing beside their car, revealing how the scene was spliced together from two different shots of Michael B. Jordan taken at slightly different times of the day.

Old Sammie: You know something? Maybe once a week, I wake up paralyzed reliving that night. But before the sun went down, I think that was the best day of my life. Was it like that for you?
Stack: No doubt about it. Last time I seen my brother. Last time I seen the sun. And just for a few hours, we was free.
- Cenas durante ou pós-créditosThere is a short post-credits scene that flashes back to the past where Sammie performs "I'm Gonna Let It Shine".
