Hijrat

I watched it very first day in Burjuman Dubai with my wife. Had high hopes because of Farooq Mengal's name, fresh cast and the apparently promising theme but what a big disappointment this movie is!! The title is misleading. The story has nothing to do with the problems of Afghan refugees. Their camps are merely used as a beautiful background for an ordinary love story. The male lead acted well and seems he can be a next big things for our industry however both the female leads failed to impress. The item number was average, a poorly choreographed skin show and Sana looked disgusting with loose skin protruding out of the strange cuts in her dress. Big names like Nadeem, Ayub Khooso and Durdana Butt were simple wasted. Zeb Rahman was very robotic and expressionless. Jamal Shah was strictly OK. I could not understand till the last moment what message actually the writer wants to convey through this annoyingly boring story and very poorly written dialogues. All in all the movie is not engaging and I could not find a single strength except the beautiful locations that also include the refugee camps which are also used only as a beautiful background. My wife wanted to leave after the first half but I asked her to wait with the hope that second half might be engaging but the movie was consistently boring. So better save your money and time and wait for Mah-e-Mir and Dobara Phir Se.

Hijrat is the exciting debut film from director Farouq Mengal with first big screen appearances for the romantic leads Asad Zaman, Rabia Butt and Rubab Ali. Mengal's original script revolves around the refugee plight from the Afghan Wars living in camps. While watching this movie I was struck by the fresh faces and magnetic acting quality of the principles and their chemistry that made watching Hijrat a joy. Hijrat is a true action/romance having something for all: The central tragedy of refugees in crisis is the core layered with genre songs for local audiences in Pakistan/India, dynamic stunts executed by Asad Zaman combined with a classic love triangle interest for younger viewers. Some great actors Nadeem Baig,Ayub Khoso & Jamal Shah factor in for seasoned Pakistani film goers to give substance: The strong acting by Asad Zaman & Rabia Butt make us feel the agony of loss,young love, heartbreak and a coming of age. Hijrat opens the viewer to feel that love has no borders or religious limits. The original script/songs and funding are all from Pakistan. "Hijrat" is an innovative new film for Lollywood & the re-birth of Pakistani cinema.

Hello, Hijrat is a class love story made by Pakistani Film maker Farouq Mengal. Actors male and female leads, did an excellent job as they expressed themselves to maximum.

Locations used speak of their beauty, covering parts of Pakistan and Turkey. Suburbs of Quetta, the provincial capital of Baluchistan, Pakistan can also be seen.

Songs and their shooting is extraordinary. Lyrics and music are excellent.

Love across the boarders is depicted in the film and love triangle with all its complexities can be seen at its peak.

Hijrat is filmed on 35 mm, making it more stunning to be on cinemas.

Hijrat is an action love story that plays out in the foreground of an exodus that rendered millions homeless during the Afghan war. It touches upon the lives of those whose spirits were broken by the homes they lost and whose hearts were broken by the shelter they found. Yet another heavy budgeted movie, Hijrat is a romantic flick that revolves around the heartbreaking tale of the homeless and the unsheltered who suffered in the Afghan war. Lollywood now seems quite alive and vibrant with the initiation of such exceptional movies. The expectations from Mengal's venture debut are quite sky high. If everything goes perfect, no one can stop "Hijrat" to join the ranks of much-loved films of the new age of Pakistani cinema. The film is based on romance and commitment essentially but we also wanted to explore the background of human rights issues in Pakistan.

Hijrat is a first of it's kind Love story made and produced by Pakistani Cinema, with beautiful music and shot in beautiful locations in Turkey (Istanbul) and Pakistan (Quetta). No other film so far in Pakistan has done this. It has been directed well and considering it was shot three years ago, it has some technical issues which can easily be ignored. However the one person who has literally stolen the show and carried the whole film is Asad Zaman as Murad. Considering this is his debut movie, he has acted wonderfully, beautifully and so professionally. His looks, his body language, his stance, his dialogue delivery were all excellent. If he has done such a brilliant job in his debut movie I can only imagine how great he will be in his future films such as Zeher-E- Ishq! I honestly feel that Pakistan Cinema has found and gained a future superstar, someone who has the potential to really take the cinema to an international level. Pakistan Cinema should be proud to have an actor like Asad Zaman, honestly speaking this guy is Hollywood material, and regardless of anything else, I highly recommend watching Hijrat just for Asad Zaman, and witness a genius in the making. Well done to Asad Zaman, and looking forward to seeing him on the big screen again, where I can envisage that his acting skills will be even better than in Hijrat. Wow wow wow! To all the producers and film directors in the sub-continent - you need to sign this guy (Asad Zaman) up for your films and productions, your audience will love it.
