Un-ex You

Un-ex is the story of Zuri, a successful single businesswoman in her 30s. Her doctor tells her that she's struggling with infertility due to premature menopause. Zuri lost her parents at a young age and grew up living with different relatives. Because of that, she's always longed to have a child of her own-someone she could be with, maybe even until old age.

It reflects a common Filipino mindset that I personally don't agree with: the belief that having a child guarantees someone will stay by your side forever. But in reality, children grow up, build their own lives, and we don't own them.

In desperation, Zuri tries to reconnect with her ex-boyfriend-not because of love, but because she wants to use him to get pregnant. She pretends she still has feelings for him. What she has done is unforgivable but she repent and ask for a forgiveness in the end.

The story isn't your typical romance where the couple usually ends up together-and I truly appreciated that. There's a certain beauty in goodbyes too, and in reality, not all love stories are meant to last. The actors, who are a real-life couple and have been my favorites since the start of their careers, delivered a solid and consistent performance. The cinematography is also stunning.

Actually, I didn't like the first half of the movie, but it gets better, and I love the ending - that's why I gave it 8/10.

If you're tired of the usual predictable love stories, this one is definitely worth watching.

Caught by the humor of RC Delos Reyes and the finesse of Kim Molina and Jerald Napoles in the field of comedy, the movie truly puts the viewer in a lighthearted and joyous mood.

The cast is great for the genre, filled perfectly with the up-and-coming love team: Kyosu Guinto and Vladia Disuanco.

The movie could've used a little bit more runtime to patch up several noticeable plot holes and help the story feel more complete, or rather it felt like an abrupt set-up attempt for a possible sequel.

Overall, it's a good watch-something you'd want to see if you're really in the mood for a great dose of laugh and light fun.

The first 5 minutes? Wala. No hook. Just straight up info dump. Instead of letting us feel where the character is at emotionally or mentally, the film just... talks at us. Parang "here's her backstory, here's her issue, here's everything about her life" pero wala kang mararamdamang urgency, tension, or even curiosity. I stayed for 20 mins... and still, nothing. Seryoso, I wanted to like it. I gave it time. But even after 20 minutes, walang real shift, walang clear goal or conflict na pinaparamdam. Puro vibes-pero walang direction. It was trying to be deep but forgot to be engaging. I hate leaving bad reviews, pero I'm being honest here: It felt like a first draft na hindi pa edited for screen. A beautiful concept (maybe?) na na-bury under too much explaining. I'm sure there's heart behind this film, but the execution made it hard to care. If you're into slow, meditative films with very little early payoff, maybe it's for you. But if you're like me na gusto ng kahit konting emotional spark agad, you might get bored. Fast.
