The CEO of Sigma has bought rights for all of Maria's works so that Akin would not be in a position to star in his grandmother's works. It becomes apparent that it's his homophobia that's driving his decisions. He would use Akin's screenplay if Akin left the industry. Since Akin felt strongly that it would be the most authentic version, he agreed with those terms, with the caveat that Jin would have the lead role.
