Mo Amer: Wild World

It seems that Mo wrote this comedy special back in 2015. Most of his stuff is outdated and has been talked about to death.

However, there are fun at times. I don't get why people have given such high ratings. Some of his material sounds like it's borrowed from other comedians' previous shows. I get deja vi several times while watching.

To everyone out there. Be more critical.

I'm a huge fan of stand-up comedy, from the greats of the past to the up-and-comers of today. I enjoyed Mo's specials Mohammed in Texas and The Vagabond, so figured I'd enjoy this special as well. Unfortunately, not the case. I found this special terrible. I tried. Watched the whole thing. Waste of my time. I didn't laugh a single time at this one. It felt outdated, overly serious, preachy, and overly political. At one point Mo goes into a poorly executed (and clearly George Carlin inspired, without the wit or inspiration) diatribe about "time" that was extremely juvenile, yet Mo attempted to pass it off as profound. Even the live audience seemed confused and/or embarrassed. It was so awkward that it ironically was the closest I came to laughing. Pass. Sadly, just bad...

Mo continues to show courage and honesty in the material he creates. There is a lot of love and empathy behind the comedy.

He dared to go where few others have during the days of heavy censorship on the topics he discusses and he continues to talk but always with a very positive spirit, without vengeance or hate.

This isn't just stand-up, it's truth told with humour and heart. He speaks about becoming a father while also addressing the reality of Palestine with honesty and urgency. The balance of comedy and real emotion is rare. He makes you laugh, then makes you think. A beautiful, necessary piece of art.

His storytelling is layered: funny, vulnerable, political, personal.

He moves from laughter to silence in a way that makes you feel the weight of his words without ever losing the joy of the comedy.

It's rare to watch something that makes you laugh, reflect, and reconsider your place in the world... all in one hour.

This is one of those pieces.

Hilarious, thoughtful comedy which hits the sweet spot! I laughed so hard that I nearly fainted about the falafel shop owners' bit. And the Armstrong song impression was nice vocals Mo. The last 10 minutes were more a heart-felt poetic, and appropriate response to the issue of the time. Truthful and courageous as always.
