I had read Riverman, which is the basis for much of this miniseries. Ted Bundy was asked for his advice in capturing the elusive Green River Killer. The audio tapes are played with an actor portraying Bundy. Scenes are repeated endlessly and there is nothing new here. Ted's brother Richard is interviewed along with many others including Chi Omega survivor Kathy Kleiner-Rubin. Her book was one of the most recent books on Ted and I read it and his cousin's tome. Gary Ridgway ends the series and I was not impressed with this overlong program.
Like Shawshank Redemption, this film is based on a Stephen King novella. It is told in reverse order with an impending apocalypse about to be done with us, with earthquakes, floods and other disasters. In the first segment, we see billboards with the cryptic message, "Chuck Krantz, thanks for your thirty-nine years of service." A school teacher uses the Carl Sagan Cosmos series to explain the fate of our planet.
In the second segment, we meet Chuck as he wanders down a street and encounters a busker. Hiddleston's dancing scene with a drummer was the highlight of the movie for me.
In the final segment, other actors portray Chuck as a child and as a teenager. The entire cast is magnificent with a script containing equal parts sentimentality and hope.
I loved this movie and expect much love for it at Oscar time.

Director and writer Ryan Coogler will surely be nominated for Oscars in both categories. His eye for detail is amazing and the script is delivered by an ensemble cast with nuance and grit. Michael B. Jordan gives a magnificent performance as twin brothers Smoke and Stack in Mississippi in the 1930s.
The siblings have returned to their hometown with ill gotten gains from Chicago and use the cash to open a juke joint with plenty of booze and music. The Delta blues has never sounded better and I recommend good speakers cranked up to hear the amazing soundtrack.
What begins as a meditation on the racial strife in the south eventually turns into an old fashioned vampire film with a message. Be sure to stay past the first set of credits as there is a follow-up with the legendary Buddy Guy performing a couple of songs. The man is eighty-eight and I was blown away by his genius.
Coogler can be seen in an interview with Amy Goodman on the Democracy Now archives. He is a man of insight and genius.
