Jojo Rabbit is a ten year old's view of Nazi Germany. It's a vision of imagination, simple ideas, strong emotions. But also a reality of injury, loss and confusion. I think the film has a lot of humor. It's an outlandish humor that isn't stifled by having to fit a mold like the Avengers film. Here Taika Waititi's humor is let loose in all sorts of ways. And with the film as outsized as his humor is, it works. There's imaginary friend Hitler. Child soldiers. Nannies with machine guns.
I don't find any flaw in the film. 10/10.

Honestly don't know much about Margaret Thatcher. After watching The Iron Lady i looked around Reddit and learned that the British public have a love or hate (very much hate) relationship to Thatcher to this day (2025) even 12 years after her death in 2013 (two years after the making of this film).
Not having this context I thought the film was pretentious in its long drawn out scenes that seemed to want to humiliate and old woman with dementia at at times. In fact the film leans more towards a depiction of a woman with Alzheimer's than a woman of the prime ministers office based on scenes dedicated there.
But I still give the film 7/10 stars because it did also try to portray the honest, true and good moments of Thatcher's life. What also could inspire the admiration of others to this day as well. It tries to take a polarizing figure and show both sides at once. Which is both commendable and also tricky, and sometimes failed. But other times successful.
The Iron Lady film is a worthy film to watch. Even though also to me a troubled, maybe slightly pandering one. At the end of the day i think it shows Margaret Thatcher as a woman with a great vision, will, and a positive intent. Who simply got too old and took her conservatism too far. But who resigned when necessary before doing the most damage. I think the film tries to show she is just a person who tried to serve her community. Even if in my opinion the film also indulges too far in telling the human interest story.

United 93, a film I neglected to watch for many years cynically assuming it was a cash grab, is anything but. What it is is a honest look at multiple failed responses because of an unprecedented level of attack to which there was no preemptive response for. But anyway still the courage of ordinary passengers to be willing to address their situation head on before flight 93 reached its catastrophic destination. When there was no other help on the way.
Kudos to the director and writers for not making villains of the terrorists. But also viewers to take vengeance in their deaths. It is not known if any of the terrorists were killed on flight 93. But I think the nation and the families needed to think that. To this day the full audio recordings are not released.
I think United 93 has its heart in the right place. Portraying the terror of the situation. The stages of grief including denial. And finally the acceptance to do what needed to be done in the knowledge of the twin towers and the pentagon being attacked. The film is a reminder of necessary uprising for a common cause with the knowledge of making the ultimate sacrifice.
