I agree with comments by other reviewers about the dark murky lighting on parts of the series. I know the intent is to create atmosphere but possibly taken too far. The three timelines were also a bit confusing especially as the two main female characters resembled each other in the early episodes. However, those are small quibbles. This is one of the better series I have seen. A compelling story which stays with you for a long time. The acting was superb. There are scenes which are difficult to watch because they are brutal. Not for the squeamish. An important time in history which poses questions relevant today.
I agree with other commentators that the addition of the two most irritating female characters seldom encountered has spoiled the series for me. I doubt I'll be able to finish this. Such promise squandered on a silly and improbable plot. No blame to the actors. They did their best. Review is too short so u repeat I found the series disappointing. It missed being good because of an improbable plot which irritated me. Need more characters. What more is there to say? The good: acting, setting. The bad: plot and characters. I wished I could have enjoyed this but I played games on my iPad until I could bear to resume the story.
I would prefer to see the artists working and the development of the work rather than hear three rather stuffy individuals pontificating about art. I don't care what they think. I love seeing the artists work. I disagree with many of the judges-not that I'm opposed to edgy or work that pushes expectations. But I think they trend toward inferior work in an attempt to seem avant-garde. Less talk and more focus on the artists. Show all the work, not just that of a select few. I need 117 more characters, so I repeat: get judges who talk less, understand and value art more and show more of the works as they develop. I love the time-lapse sequences showing how the works evolve.
