Its pretty hard to take this movie seriously. Maybe my expectations were too high from so many positive reviews, but this had some of the corniest characters I've ever seen.
Sure the special effects were cool, and the story is different, but it was impossible to watch this movie without laughing at how bad the characters are and how little sense their behaviors made. Maybe it's a cultural thing or something but the main character was so incredibly weak, you're just waiting and waiting for him finally to stop being a wimp. Very weak characters and character progression and the movie drags on and on. It's like it was trying to pay homage to how unintentionally funny/cheesy the classic movies were, by also being cheesy. All in all, don't waste your time.

Dune is one of the best books I've ever read, a really good story connects to something greater deep inside, and that's what Dune did for me... So when I saw they were coming out a new Dune movie, expectations were high (especially after trying to watch the original movie from the 80s, which for me was difficult).
Dune absolutely delivered. Everything about this movie is a 10. The visuals, the soundtrack, the characters and the story.. there just isn't much I think you can fault this film on. Villeneuve will go down as one of the greatest directors of all time and I'm glad he's the one directing the Dune series.
We dont often get movies that deliver on this scale anymore, so many sci fi movies try and fail to be a fraction of what Dune achieves .

One of the best sci fi movies in the past 10 years and one of Tom Cruise's best movies IMO. When you forget your watching a movie then it's a good movie, and this no doubt achieved that. I've watched this one a few times and I always forget how good it is.
The pace of this movie is what pulls you in, the editing is so good. The whole Groundhog Day theme is executed perfectly as are the sci fi elements of the alien race and higher intelligence.. It's a good action movie with quality characters which is so often what sci fi movies lack. (Ahem Prometheus)
