There's this current trend on the internets these days where there's a person that misses the person they went to the first movie with, and I felt it to my core.
"For Good" is actually Act II after the curtain call. I think it is instantly apparent that this was an absolute disaster of a choice to split this story in two parts. The main theme of the entire story is lost between the one year gap. Everything happening feels like a filler scene. There's no real connection between the themes of the first movie and this. This had to be a complete story in one single movie. The thing is, the emotional pull is there but all these jumps in-between and all the extra scenes that have no actual reason to exist weaken the emotions. "For Good" was always meant to be the weakest of the two parts as the songs in this are really weak as well. All the thrill of Act I is somewhat toned down, there are not many songs that stand out, vwith "For Good" caring the entirety of Act II by being the emotional center of the entire show. It was the strongest scene in the entire movie. And it destroyed me. Very emotional, very beautiful very powerful scene. Erivo and Grande actually are amazing together, they made these movies huge. It's all on them. Musicals require people who know how to sing. "Wicked" is saved by its performers. The visuals and set pieces are stunning and beautiful, the new songs add nothing to the plot and the runtime is ridiculous. This could have been an hour shorter. As a standalone "For Good" doesn't work at all. As a sequel it feels like it's dragging a lot. As an Act II it's perfect, if you combine it with the first movie. Grande and Erivo are the best thing that has come of this. Wicked the musical feels like a more cohesive story. But these movies are actual, real fun!
I'm a complete, total mess but for reasons of my own.

It almost feels like "Bugonia" is a result of the current global environment. People are believing in conspiracy theories, stuff they find online becomes an obsession. The climate change is severe, the current political climate and capitalism is ruining earth as we speak. Many species are becoming endangered. The mighty and powerful are only interested in their earnings, capitalists rule the world. Big pharmaceuticals are investing into new therapies but their only purpose is to gain. CEOs and directos overwork their staff. This is all what inspired "Bugonia". The story is absurd, but by being so obviously unhinged it becomes the means of telling a very sureal yet very current, very fresh and very contemporary story. "Bugonia" is a movie about the 2020s. It's a universal story about how humans treat and interact with the world but it feels like it jumped out of the recent political and global climate. Lanthimos is a mastermind in creating such weird, disturbing movies but at their core, each and every creation has universal appeal. He combines absurdity with normality in a very masterful way. Stone has been his muse for a while now, and although her role here is challenging, this movie belongs to Plemmons. Everything about his character demands crazy acting skills, he's perfect! "Bugonia" is a disturbing watch, but somehow it found its way in my heart but mostly in my mind, and it's gonna stay there for a while now.
I was really invested in the first half of the movie. Everything felt so intriguing to me, I wanted to know who the woman was, what happened to her, everything felt possible. It felt good seeing Keira in a contemporary thriller. The first half works perfectly, it creates the suspense. But then there's a big revelation and the tone shifts, after that we're watching quite a different kind of story. That part is somewhat harder to believe, yet it fits in the context of the movie. I'm not very fond of the way they decided to shape the story, but still this was quite a good mystery. It sure feels like a Netflix movie. "The Woman in Cabin 10" is a psychological thriller, that works mostly when there's real suspense, and less when it is a typical thriller.
