Frank Jr. Said it well in this film when addressing his father's portrait, "I want to be just like you, but also completely original..." This movie does a good job staying in spirit with the original. It plays loving homage to the original actors. It keeps a Weird Al cameo and has an under 90-minute runtime like the original trilogy. A lot of the jokes feel like they would be right at home in any of the Police Files movies.
But at the same time, the movie differentiates itself well from the Nielson movies. This movie plays a lot of things more seriously than the previous. Liam Neeson is pitch perfect casting for this role for many reasons. He has a name and appearance that makes him a good fit for Leslie Nielson's son. Neeson is now known as being a serious action movie tough guy. This reputation helps sell the jokes. The fact that the movie can feel like a legitimate action movie makes all the ridiculous stuff stand out and feel even funnier. Also, Liam Neeson can really sell a joke, he is an underrated comedic actor.
Downside is admittedly subjective. It is a comedy, and I didn't find a lot of the jokes to be funny. The jokes that hit, knocked it out of the park. But the ones that miss, they strike out.
Overall, this is a decent comedy in a world where we could all use a good laugh.

It sure is another "Naked Gun" movie. It has the same type of rapid fire jokes. There are grammar jokes, pop culture references, slapstick and some good old-fashioned nonsense jokes.
This film does recycle a lot of the gags from earlier in the series. But, with the finale happening at the Oscars as opposed to a baseball game or energy seminar, they are able to do more satire about the movie making business.
All the trilogy is about the same in quality. So, if you are choosing them based on joke flavor, this one is a good pick for movie jokes.

Before the MCU took off, the big names in Marvel were Spider-Man, X-Men and the Fantastic Four. The heroes have had a hard time getting off the ground. Counting the Roger Corman one, this film marks the family's fourth attempt to make it to the big screen. It is safe to say that this is the best film adaptation of these heroes.
Likewise, the MCU has been in a bit of a slump post Endgame. It helps that this MCU movie does not take place in the main universe, and they are allowed to have some fun with the retro future setting.
The movie has a wonderful optimism to it. Just showing the idea that the whole world would agree to help out when called upon is a nice thing to imagine. The story does not waste any time getting to the point. They very quickly establish the villain, his goal and why the heroes must stop him.
The science mumbo jumbo, even by comic book movie standards is ridiculous. There are certain plot points that feel underbaked and it doesn't all come together.
But overall, not a homerun, is a solid base hit.
