I had the privilege to see an early screening of this film, and walked it blind without much knowledge of the creative team or cast. This, in addition to the gorgeous cinematography and acute dialogue, is what allowed me to be swept away so wholly by the story. Pigossi gives a fully lived-in performance as Lourenco, and Calvani somehow weaves several navel thematic threads (queer identity, race, the generational divide and socioeconomic class struggle) throughout the 2 hours without ever feeling heavy handed or forced. Marisa Tomei is also a scene stealer, particularly in he4r moment with Pigossi. A worthy watch, and a massive surprise that stayed with me long after I left the theater.
