Typical Hong Kong comedy...
10 January 2016
"L-O-V-E ... Love" is a very typical late 1990's comedy from the Hong Kong cinema. That being said, don't get me wrong, I am not saying that in a negative way. It is just that if you are familiar with the Hong Kong cinema then you know what you are getting yourself into here.

The story is about a millionaire who goes undercover to work in a sushi restaurant. He and his three colleagues end up traveling to Pattaya, Thailand in order to be close to the girls they admire; a group of Hong Kong models traveling there for a beauty pageant.

As with most Hong Kong comedies from the 1990's, then the characters are abstract and over the top, as is the dialogue. Everything here is very generic to the genre and to the time at which it was filmed.

To those familiar with Hong Kong cinema, then there are some good names on the cast list. Now, the main attractions are of course Shu Qi and Vivian Hsu, but the movie also has the always funny Eric Kot, as well as Michael Tao and Pak-Cheung Chan.

An enjoyable movie if you, like me, enjoy Hong Kong cinema. If you are new to the Hong Kong cinema then this might not be the best of introductions to what Hong Kong has to offer.
