Have you ever woken up next to a hot girl or guy, but have no recollection how you got there? That is the premise behind writer/director Candice T Cain's award winning film WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT (winner of best film at the 2016 Innovative Film Festival of Florida.) In the opening minutes we meet Sarah (Alix Kermes) & Danny (Clayton Snyder) waking up from what looks like a wild night of college partying. But how did Sarah & Danny get there & why can't they remember meeting? We find out that and much more over the ninety minute film.
We come to find out Sarah & Danny are both coming out of relationships with bad endings, with their friends Mindy (Diana Durango) & Joe (Cody Calafiore) intent on snapping them out of their funks. Each comes to a solution, the annual Gamma Bash on the State College campus. The dialogue provided by Ms. Cain is sharp & witty, giving life to the Brookhaven, Long Island, NY shot film. Cain along with cinematographer Jon Mercer (who won an award at the festival) create a great view of college life, plus a wonderful color scheme used in several locations. We get cameos from Amber Rose & WWE superstar David Otunga (wish he was in the film more), but the true breakout stars are Kermes & Durango. I can find only one flaw in this near perfect comedy. The male lead is outshined by the leading ladies & Calafiore, however it is a minor flaw in an otherwise fun film. I am sure this will be a great Friday night date flick.
