Shotguns and Six Strings: Making a Rock N Roll Fable (2017)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Highly entertaining documentary that covers the making of Walter Hill's STREETS OF FIRE. This documentary runs just as long as the feature film itself and features interviews with Hill, Michael Pare, Deborah Van Valenburgh, Larry Gross, Lawrence Gordon, Freeman A. Davies and countless others involved with the production.
What I enjoyed most about this documentary is that you get to hear from the director, the main star and the screenwriter but also several other members of the production including many that you don't normally hear from. This includes art directors, costume designers and many others who helped shape the film. Every aspect of the production is covered and we get some fantastic stories including some of the early casting decisions including almost getting Tom Cruise for the lead.
Considering the running time, fans are going to really love this as it does a great job at going through the entire production including the release of the film where things didn't go quite as planned. I think everyone involved were disappointed in how things turned out but at the same time they're happy that the film eventually did catch on with fans.
