Sorry, can't go along with all these negative critics. The DC Animated flicks (nearly) always deliver quality. The Ray is no exception. First of all it's a classic Superhero-Origin-Story about a hero trying to find his place in life and searching for his destiny. But the creators are brave enough to choose a young, mild-mannered gay protagonist, who struggles - besides from handling his new powers - with the values and ideals of his parents. But the movie offers further messages and becomes a reflection of the current social and political developments: A gay superhero fights Nazis on a prallel-earth (this parable can't be illustrated any more clearly and strongly). Besides its' unconventional starting point the movie provides a Terminator-style setting when the resistance fights the New Reichsmen, led by Overgirl, on the dystopian Earth-X.
I strongly recommend this flick to every fan of the DC Animated Universe and to every fan of good comics.
Conclusion: A bold (and important) addition to the DC Animated Series, which proves the importance of comics as serious entertainment. More please...
