Mithunda and Deepa Sahi in a Deewaar rehash!!

Dushman review :

Veteran director Shakti Samanta's last film Dushman was a watered down remake of Yash Chopra's Deewaar (1975) where Mithun Chakraborty played Amitabh's anti hero while in a gender reversal, Deepa Sahi became the honest police inspector like Shashi Kapoor in the original.

Mithunda is called Bullet - a petty thief turned gangster - who works for smuggler Kalicharan (Sadashiv Amrapurkar). Unknown to him, Kalicharan is responsible for jailing his father (Alok Nath) and rendering his family homeless.

A routine Mithunda actioner of late 80s; Dushman was aimed at his fan club. In one scene, he even refers to himself as the Royal Bengal Tiger.

"Maya Memsaab" Deepa Sahi had the lengthier role than main lead Mandakini (who was restricted to couple of songs only). Deepa looked smart in cop uniform and pitched in a sincere performance. Sadashiv Amrapurkar, saying BU-LETT in his typical Marathi accent, is memorable.

I had seen Dushman on VHS at the time of its release and liked it. His films may be good or bad but Mithunda is always great!!
