From Nowhere (2016) was co-written and directed by Matthew Newton.
It's a movie about three high school students who are threatened with deportation. The three were all admitted to the U. S. with full documentation. They should have been all right in regard to immigration. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, they have to prove to a judge that they shouldn't be deported.
All three of the students are gifted. The U. S. shouldn't want to lose them. It's obviously cruel to send them "back" to a country with which they aren't even familiar. They have a skilled lawyer, who is working pro bono, but it's an uphill struggle for each one. The plot of the movie plays out over the course of their senior high school year.
It's an important movie, and worth seeking out. From Nowhere has an IMDb rating of 6.8. I thought it was much better than that, and rated it 9.
