Even given the cast's pedigree, the film moves aimlessly slow. The interactions are genuine enough and the cinematography is the biggest positive of the movie. But too often it's uncomfortable silences when it shouldn't be. There's scenes that linger when they shouldn't. It feels like they were given a skeleton script and asked to fill in when needed, which they struggle to do at times.
Understandably, no one needs to know all the backstory, all the dialogue, all of everything to enjoy a movie. Hardwick's character seems so flawed and wide ranging (I guess LA type like Issa Rae says) and is almost the weight holding the movie down. All in all, it beautifully shot, reminiscent of Collateral in a way, but hard to pay attention to.
