ANOTHER CHINESE COP is a film made just before the new wave of Hong Kong thrillers kicked in, complete with their youthful and highly fashionable stars. This one creaks along in comparison and it feels like nobody's making much of an effort - even the title is as generic as they come. The film features a couple of cops, played by genre stars Elvis Tsui and Anthony Wong, on the trail of kidnappers. There's a lot of attempted suspense with ticking bombs and the like, but it's too cheap to ring true and Wong's bum character is particularly irritating. Bad guy Billy Chow enlivens things a little with his trademark high kicking, but it's not enough to make this entertaining.
