Slaughterhouse Rock (AKA: Hell Island) - 1988 (This film Rates a D ) Alex is a college student who keeps having horrific nightmares about a band who is murdered while recording an album inside Alcatraz. These nightmares happen when he is sleeping and awake. The visions confusingly turn into reality. Eventually we learn the true story of a killer who used to live on the island before it was a prison. Alex is easily lured to go to Alcatraz by a woman who is into the occult. He goes to the island with her and brings a few roommates They blindly follow her and get stranded within the confines of the prison. Alex gets separated from the group and meets a ghost of the bands lead singer (Toni Basil). She helps him be able to have and control out of body experiences so that he can defeat the demon killer and "become free". This film features demon possession and rape. Some brief images of boobs. None of that can save the mess. The script is dumb and full of the typical teenage stupidity. It tries to be funny and fails on much of it. The gore effects are too short to appreciate and not extensive enough to satisfy. You'll also get lines like: "Are you hungry? Does an accordion player wear a pinky ring?" or "Sometimes I think I have barbeque sauce for blood". The biggest highlight is the 90's electronic rock soundtrack by Devo. The Schlocky title says it all.
