Charlie Wilson's War is a 2007 Drama starring Tom Hanks,Julia Roberts, Philip Seymour Hoffman,Emily Blunt and Amy Adams(who would later go on and star in Enchanted).

Directed by Mike Nichols(Mona Lisa Smile),the film is set in the early 1980s, and we see a US congressman named Charlie Wilson(Hanks) who seems to be in the minor leagues, except for the fact that he is a member of a two major foreign policy and covert-ops committees. Besides his politics his also a ladies man who has a thing for a woman(Blunt).

However with his major conservative supporter, Houston Socialite Joanne Herring(Roberts), Wilson learns about the people who are suffering at the brutal Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.

With the help of a CIA agent, named Gustav "Gust" Avrakotos(Hoffman), Wilson dedicates his political efforts to supply with the weapons and support to defeat the Soviet Union.

However, Charlie Wilson eventually learns that there are other consequences. Overall it was a very underrated film. Tom was great in this film and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman was great too. Also this film has alot of reunions; Tom Hanks and Amy Adams were in Catch Me If You Can,Philip Seymor Hoffman worked with Adams in Doubt with Meryl Streep,Emily Blunt worked with Amy Adams in Sunshine Cleaning and back to Tom Hanks he worked with Julia Roberts again in Larry Crowe.
