The story takes place at the end of summer, but it was filmed in the dead of winter, December/January.
Roadkill had additional victims than ones seen on screen. The original Driver's car from the pre-production teaser blew a rod rendering it inoperable. The original Sheriff car was destroyed by fire. The new Sheriff car frequently died during filming. A producer's car suffered damage from a hit and run on set. One of the roadways used to film on was milled up between shooting days and could not be shown on film afterward.
On one shoot day, at a remote location, local police responded to an actual death crime scene in the woods very close to the set.
Hollywood horror legend Danielle Harris expressed interest in the lead role of The Driver but when she learned the part was in a different age range, she accepted the supporting role of Allison instead.
Shot in 23 days.
