a good film
My daughter age 7 likes this movie very much. she is wondering why so many bad reviews!'It's funny but the hyenas are a bit strange.' she says. The hyenas don't look like hyenas..they are very colorful and they don't really have laughs. Some of the characters are a little bit scary but not bad enough to give you nightmares. She wonders what happens to some of the characters at the end as the film only tells you what happened to the boy. She would watch it again if she didn't have anything else to watch. She also wonders why there are a few characters with long ears. She thinks the movie is as good as any Pixar or Disney animation film. She hopes some more kids will give the movie better reviews and more stars!
New worst movie ever.
New worst movie ever. OMG! What kind of drugs were these people on?!?! Holy crap. I've never heard so many horrific stereotypical accents/characters, ridiculous dialogue, trite plot, and totally incongruent story line. It's almost worth watching just to laugh till you cry at how seriously they appear to have taken them selves while making this utterly horrific trash. It's like a train wreck though... I can't stop watching. What the hell bizarre crap will they throw in the mix next? Aliens? Dinosaurs? Anyone's guess.
Decent Movie
My 3 year old son enjoys watching this movie on Netflix. We have seen it over and over. There is a lot of characters, and drama in the plot. The music is great as well. The only thing I do not care for in the movie, is the racism comment that is made by the Monkey Queen. When addressing some of her monkeys she calls them "crackers" and they speak with southern/hillbilly accents. It might be that I am from the south, and that is why I find the comment offensive. Or maybe I am thinking too much into it. It took me watching the movie about 10xs (cause when you have a 3 year old that likes a movie, you will watch it over and over and over again)...to catch the comment. I am trying to decide whether I want to continue to allow my son to watch it after the political/racist comment was made. I would advise parents to watch the movie first, to make sure it is something you would want your children to watch.
Far better than the homogenised pasteurised, social lobby driven Disney or Pixar, drivel.
I watched this title recently and found the story to be simple but refreshing. The animation was beautiful, facial expression was novel and not typical boring sighs and rolling of the eyes out of pixar that is so cringe-worthy. It is not by any means even close to anything out of Ghibli studio but over all a far better show that anything out of Hollywood. I was very surprised by so much prejudice in some of the reviews here. It seems some deranged people watch children shows for social or political statement. I rather watch them for entertainment value, and to show some genuine human emotion, that is so much lacking in the factory line production that is called Hollywood. From human emotion depiction this title is OK but not great, (for better human emotion production I refer you to Japanese animation like "Wolf Children") however from entertainment and fantastic Art and faces this animation is very good. The mere fact that girl faces did not have the mean squint smile so common in today Pixar production was well worth the watch. And not once I saw the rolling of the eye or the stupid sigh that is so common. Hope to see more animation like this. Good work. I recommend it
Don't let your kids watch this animation.
This is one of the worst movies ever rendered. The plot is a series of sections ripped from other stories, with jingoistic characters that have no consistency or growth arc, the animation is pretty average, looking more like something from the 1990's then from 2015.
