The black and white images of the corpses of Lizzie's parents that are used in the series, are the real life images captured by detectives during the Borden murders.
The series is a continuation of the story begun in the network's 2014 film Lizzie Borden Took an Axe and, like the film, is speculative. Unlike the film, the events are pretty much entirely fictional.
Originally named Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles.
Chronologically, the events taking place in the series happen directly between the trial in the Lizzie Borden film, and the separation of Lizzie and Emma Borden that took place years later.
Based on the same real life events as The Legend of Lizzie Borden (1975), Lizzie (2018), Lizzie Borden: A Woman Accused (1995), Lizzie Borden Hash & Rehash (1995), The Strange Case of Lizzie Borden (2005), Lizzie Borden (2012), Lizzie Borden Took an Ax (2014) and The Older Sister (1956), and that are depicted in a lesser degree in Whodunit? The Greatest Unsolved Mysteries (1979), Wax Magic (1988) and Thin Lizzie (2015).
