Rio de Janeiro, early 20th century. Dr. Antônio's (Vladmir Brichta) occupation is to stay in the best hotels in the city and steal guests' belongings. His life changes when he meets Eva (Alice Braga), a woman who gave up her gift for drawing to get married. She is the wife of Jorge (Pedro Brício), a greedy man who pays little attention to his wife's interests and desires. Meanwhile, Félix Pacheco (Caio Blat), director of the newly opened Identification Office, decides to put an end to Dr. Antônio's maneuvers, using a fingerprint identification technique.
